Daily Writing Feb 17th

Imagine that you are volunteering at a USFSP community partner dialogue and find yourself in conversation with the executive director of the Pinellas County branch of Volunteer Match. In this conversation, you are asked to describe the Student Philanthropy Boards and the NOFO process, which you do. You are then asked to describe the current NOFOs that will be made available to the public on 26 February. In this daily writing, describe that conversation. Be sure that you include brief descriptions of each of the 4 NOFOs being offered by SPBs 1-4.

I would describe the Student Philanthropy Board as a part of our Leadership program. I would describe how we discover and research the issues in the Pinellas and Hillsborough community. We then narrow down the issues to furthermore find a specific critical need of the community. The issue must be able to be solved or helped with our government grant of $5000. The NOFO process is fist deciding our issue. Then we narrowed it down to the specific critical need. We write a problem statement by researching the issue and declaring how it effects our community. Then we decide what the program should entail to create a solution. We must look at the different factors such as sustainability, proposal requirements from the different organizations and provide restrictions for these.

The first SPB worked on homelessness. They want to help provide a place for homeless people to regain their lives and overall positively impact their well being. They will maintain an existing program by helping it stay alive and will also include programs that will help with their success in the working world.

SPB 2 also wants to help the homeless. They want to give them the skills needed for a career, such as increasing their knowledge in technology. They also discussed transportation to get to these jobs and a place to keep clean.

SPB 3 worked with domestic violence. They want a safe place for women that are being abused and a place for their children as well. They want to have a place for women ages 18-30 to go to learn to be independent.

SPB 4 wants to clean the environment and focus on the litter. They discussed creating a program to keep the community beautiful by picking up litter and educating the people about recycling and maintaining the health of the environment.
